A Planetary Pilgrim's Tunes for Walking I: "Resilient" & "Stoney Creek"
A PREVIEW of a NEW paid subscribers only thrice weekly newsletter.
This special newsletter for paid subscribers only is published three times a week (Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday)
Each edition features videos of two tunes which capture an aspect of what it means to be a Planetary Pilgrim. I share a brief reflection on each tune and what I hear in it. I also share a link or two for you to learn more about the artists of these tunes.
Paid subscribers also have access to the full Spotify playlist (which continues to grow.) I’ve been enthusiastically curating it for a while - and I’ve been listening to this playlist most mornings when I walk my dog!
Resilient by Rising Appalachia is an anthem for our times. You may have noticed that things are tough out there these days. Harmony among us is what builds strength and allows us to persevere through difficulty. Lead singers and sisters Leah and Chloe seamlessly blend their voices to give us an auditory example of the beauty and grace of harmony. Near the end when they sing: My voice feels tiny and I’m sure so does yours
But put us all together, make a mighty roar - and the band playfully reacts - I’m inspired and encouraged.
Planetary Pilgrims recognize and celebrate our innate connection with the earth. Leah and Chole acknowledge - I’m made of thunder
I’m made of lightning
I’m made of dirt, yeah
Made of the fine things
My father taught me that I’m a speck of dust
And in the bridge of the song: I got my roots down, down, down, down, down
Down, down, down, down deep they affirm the origin of our strength.
Rootedness in the harmonies of creation is the source of our resilience needed to endure these times - and especially to build a better world from this wreckage.

Wow!!! This official video for “Stoney Creek” by Xavier Rudd is stunning. How does one learn to move/dance on a board with that much grace and joy. Add the gorgeous ocean scenes with a light story through the images and even without the music it’s a blissful four minutes.
Rudd says this about the fictious Stoney Creek:
This song is from the album Jan Juc Moon - which is a coastal town in Victoria, Australia - from which Rudd hails.
I wonder - if you were a song writer, what would you have to sing about the place(s) you call “home?”
